Castelo do Sol is a large imposing villa, situated in an elevated position above a small country road. It is rectangular in construction with a circular turret on each corner. The villa has ground floor garaged parking, first floor living accommodation and second floor bedrooms.

The property was bought by the present owners in 2016. Construction actually began in 1990 but once the shell of the building had been put up, the project was abandoned and the villa lay neglected for over twenty years. It has always been called the ‘Castle House’ by the local community and as the owners already had a property called Casa do Sol (House of the sun) subsequently, the name Castelo do Sol (Castle of the sun) was adopted.

Now the villa stands finished and proud, a landmark in the local area where cars passing on the road outside slow down to see this unusual and imposing property, somewhat incongruent in the local rural area.

ACCESS

From the small road outside on the ground floor, you enter a large enclosed calçada (cobbled) parking area with two large garages, one capable of holding five cars and the second two cars. At the garage level, an entrance to the house has a marble staircase in one of the turrets which leads to the first floor living area and the second floor bedrooms.

To the left of the house there is a second entrance from the road with a calçada drive leading to the first floor level. There is a marble outside curved staircase and an adjacent ramp leading to the first floor entrance hall. The driveway continues through a gate and gives access to the courtyard at the back of the house and a second entrance to the Snug.

OPEN PLAN LOUNGE, DINING & KITCHEN

The living area is open plan with a large kitchen, a dining area and lounge. All the rooms have air conditioning.

Wifi Wifi is at the top of the list of facilities because the first questions kids ask is ‘what’s the Wifi like’. Relax kids, the Wifi is fibre broadband and fast.

When you are tired of relaxing outside with a cool drink, sat by the beautiful swimming pool and looking up at the dome of myriad stars then there is a lounge area with a large comfortable sofa, TV and log burning fire if you are visiting during the colder months.

KITCHEN

The kitchen is grey painted, shaker style with a tall bank of units against the left hand wall, a large centre island in the middle and a sink worktop on the right. It is fully fitted with all the modern facilities. There are two main ovens, one combination microwave/oven, an induction hob, washing machine, dishwasher and an American style fridge freezer with cold water and ice on tap. The worktops are a beautiful Blue Pearl Granite and there is a matching breakfast table in the turret space which seats four people. The centre island houses the induction hob, a breakfast bar which sits four people and plenty of storage space for all the utensils, cutlery and crockery you would need.

DINING AREA

Dining The dining area is open plan situated alongside the kitchen. The dining table itself is polished dark wood and comfortably sits ten people. It is overhung by two chandeliers which give plenty of light by which to see the spread laid on for family, friends and guests.

SNUG

There is a second front entrance to the house which leads to an entrance hall with the dining area on the right, a smaller lounge (snug) in front and a toilet room with shower on the left. The snug has a sofa, TV, a football table and its own log burner for that cosy feeling on the cooler nights. By locking the door to the dining area, the snug can become a private bedroom with its own toilet and shower and its own access to the side and rear of the house.

BEDROOMS

The house has four double bedrooms upstairs, one either end of the house and two in the middle, all have wardrobe storage space. Two of the bedrooms have ensuite shower/toilet rooms and there is a further common bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and wash sink.

The centre bedrooms have an outside balcony with a small table and two chairs. The rear bedroom overlooks the pool area and the front looks out to a small vineyard, fields and trees where you can sit in the evenings, have some private time and watch the sun go down.

The extra large master bedroom has access to two round turret spaces. One is an ensuite shower, toilet and wash sink and the second a seating area for those moments of quiet contemplation.

OUTSIDE

Outside To the left of the villa a driveway leads through a gate to the courtyard at the back. On the right of the villa is a large terrace area with access direct to the kitchen. If you like sunbathing and feeling the sun then this terraced area is ideal. The left of the villa tends to be more shaded and suited to those who prefer to get out of the heat of the day, enjoy the shade and relax with a book or friends.

There is a calçada courtyard to the rear of the villa which has a log store and BBQ (Churresquera) area with a stone dining table and six chairs.

SWIMMING POOLS & SURROUND

From the rear courtyard a set of marble stairs lead to the swimming pool area. The pool is 10m x 5m plus semi-circular entrance steps. The pool is designed as a pool for swimmers. It has a small shallow area of 1.3m which quickly drops off to the full depth of 2.1m. Adjacent the main pool is a small children’s splash pool, 2m in diameter and 0.5m deep. The pools are surrounded by a large tiled area, suitable for sunbathing and relaxing. For those that want to stay out of the sun there is a covered seating area to the left of the pool and a Pergola to the right, next to the children’s pool (or adults sit in pool to cool off, maybe with a glass of the local wine, once you have go the kids to bed). The sides, rear and pool areas of the villa are private and not overlooked. The nearest house is about 100m away on the left. There are no houses to the front, rear or to the right of the villa, only an old ruined animal house.
